I think I told you before that when I was young, I jumped out of a tree
with an umbrella to see if it would work like a parachute (true story). It
didn’t -- don’t try it.
um-brel-la -- something that covers or protects, that is, if the rain isn’t
whipping or the wind isn’t gusting. When the rain is gentle, you get
pretty good protection.
For the child of God, His umbrella of love is quite different -- it is there
for our protection especially when the storms of life get quite severe.
When life is gentle and calm, we have a tendency to forget that His
umbrella is still over us, and we take that for granted. That’s a “no-no.”
We should never get so complacent that we just assume that his care is
there. We need a constant God consciousness.
Psalm 5:11 (neb): “But all who find safety in you will rejoice; they can
always sing for joy. Protect those who love you; because of you they
are truly happy.” Ah yes, “truly happy”. I hope that describes you
today because you know you are protected by God’s love.
