(1Kings 1)
King David has declared who the election of God for his succession is. "Of all my sons, (for the Lord has given me many sons,) He has chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel." (I Chronicles 28:5). But as the king became old, Adonijah, who also is a son of the father, but not chosen came up with another plan which is not of the father king. "Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king, and he prepared himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him" (I Kings I:5).

Bathsheba and Solomon her son to whom the King has declared what the election of God is concerning him who will sit on David's throne after him wondered what was happening. When they knew that the matter has come to the knowledge of the king and the king rebuked him not, they concluded the king might after all changed his mind and repented from making Solomon king after him. If not, why did not the king talk? Why the silence on the part of the king?

Adonijah threw a great feast graced by all his brethren the king's sons and all the men of Judah the king's servants. There was mighty Joab to man the military quarters and Abiathar the priest( a descendant of Eli whose priesthood is under the curse of destruction from God) to give the whole event spiritual aura and religious colouration. Considering the calibre of the people, it was resolved that the whole kingdom has gone after Adonijah.

The matter came to the knowledge of Nathan the Prophet, who also knew whom the LORD has chosen to succeed David on the throne. Nathan knew where the word of the king is, there is authority. He discovered that the fault was not with either Adonijah who rebelled or with the king who refused to give any order against the rebelious act, the fault was with those who has the word of the king and know not what to do with it. The question we ought to ask ourselves is that, having the sure word of God with us as "Thus says the LORD!", what should we do with the word?

Nathan knew what should be done with the word of the king. He knew the times of complications and difficult situations, are not the time of assuming what God may be saying or doing. It is the time to take the word of the king back to him. Nathan told Beersheba to go in to the king with the very word which the mouth of the king himself has spoken. That alone resolved the whole matter.

The LORD has told us the efficacy of His word which shall never fail. In Isaiah He told us, "So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth:it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11). Forever the word of the LORD is settled. We do suffer alot because we do not know what to do with the promises of God in our lives. It is shocking to discover that the LORD can watch His son perish, if such son will not call upon Him and run to HIm for sure help. We can have promises upon promises from God, but if we do not know what to do with them, we will never enter into the land of fulfillment. We will die in the land of promises. How terrible!

What would the situation have been, if Solomon just enter into the room or approach Adonijah and start claiming the throne? We do not claim what belongs to us. We take possession of them by standing on the very word of God.

Many Adonijahs are reigning in our midst today and we are to be blamed for it. We do think because of the passage of time over the word of God to us, it has lost its potency; because the king has grown old, His word has become obsolete. But God tells us in His very word the He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and God and His word are one. As long as the word abides, our hope abides.

Although Adonijah reigns, he does not ride on the mule of the king! The mule of the king is reserved for those who have the promise of the father and who will go before the king with the very words of the king. Never go into the king's court without the king's word. Let us learn to go to the king with the word of the king. There is great power in standing on the word of promise that God gives us. His word never fails. It is the answer to all our questions.

If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
