You Became Mine
Did you know that from the moment of our birth, we unknowingly become the object of a very passionate Heavenly pursuit?
As babes, we are born into this world, and one of the first things we discover is our five physical senses.
We begin to taste, hear, see, smell and touch.
It doesn’t take long before the reality of our own self importance makes its debut and without hesitation, we start to make a rather noisy insistence that our needs be met!
Our entire universe is made up of two concerns, what’s to eat? and who has the baby towelettes?
We have no problem becoming the center of our world, and we very quickly and instinctively declare ourselves to be the rulers of our personal sovereigns. As our fairytale unfolds, (notice I said fairytale) for a small period of time we are just that… miniature kings reigning over our tiny little nursery domains.
Every whine and whimper is tended to. What we eat, what we drink, all of our comforts are met. Every boo-boo is tenderly kissed, every sigh watched over with concern and for a few years we think to ourselves…“It’s good to be King!
But then the day arrives when that pesky thing called – growing up and taking responsibility- shoves it’s cruel demands upon us, and we are toppled out of our infantile palaces.
But what we discover is someone close by has had a watchful eye on us the whole time, His story about us however is somewhat different:
Ezekiel 16: 4-7a
On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths. No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Rather, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised.
Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, “LIVE!” I made you grow like a plant of the field. You grew up and developed and became the most beautiful of jewels.
Later, I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine. (Ezekiel 16: 8)
The one thing that gripped my heart as I meditated on this story, were the last three words of this dialog when God said, “And you became mine.”
I don’t know what those words do to you, but for me, it’s like I become embraced by the most loving and tender arms. I can almost feel His gentle hand brush my temple as He draws me next to the warmth of His cheek. I’m held there in the silence of His fathomless love for me.
All I know, is at that precise moment, I become the sole object of His love.
And in that same moment,
He becomes mine.

felt a tingling down my
spine, from that last line.
It is very moving, and
powerful, isn't it?
God Bless!
