If I may ask the question, “Would we allow sinful things into our homes and lives?” Such as, would we want prostitution in our homes from our girls? Would we want adultery in our homes from our spouses? Do we want foul language and flat out disobedience from our children?
I know 90% of you reading this would most likely say, “No”. However, we allow all of this sin and more into our homes by the movies we allow our families to watch and the music we listen to and allow our kids to listen to. I am speaking of rock music and country music and other music (some of which go by the name of Christian music). I have heard people tell me that not all that music is bad. Just because the song may have the name Jesus or God or Father, doesn’t make it a godly song to listen to. And just because the words Jesus, God, or Father are in a movie, doesn’t make it a godly movie.
We fill our heads and eyes and ears with so much trash, the saying comes of “Trash in …Trash out”. Philippians 4:8 ~ “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (KJV)
Now there are, I imagine, people reading this that are getting offended at what I am saying and I want you to read Psalm 119:165 ~ “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” (KJV) A godly Christian seeks ways to improve their walk with God. But life tends to “weed out” those that only want the blessings of God without having to go through the trials of God and do not truly want to live the Christian life. Read Matthew 13:21 ~ “Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.” (KJV)
We say we are protecting our children, yet we allow sin in without batting an eye. We are training our children to follow God, yet we allow them to do what ever they want to do without any remorse. We allow our children to watch violence, sex, homosexuality, and listen to foul language. We say it doesn’t affect them or us. And that is exactly what Satan wants to hear. You wouldn’t want your friends to come over to your house with it looking like a mess with trash all over the floor, then why would we expect Jesus to live in our hearts with trash all in our lives and in our minds and in our hearts.
Let me ask you, if your child’s room were a mess would you allow it to stay that way? I doubt it, most of us would tell them to clean “this pigsty up”. Have we forgotten what is said in 1Pe 1:16, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
God doesn’t expect us to be perfect or sinless, but He does expect us to live godly lives. He gives us the power and ability to follow Him, but we are the ones who choose not to. I encourage you to look through your lives, hearts, minds, and homes. If Jesus were coming over to eat dinner with you, what would you have to clean up or put away or put out of sight before He arrived? If you find something, I need to tell you a very sobering thought. If you are a Christian, saved by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus has already arrived.
Getting rid of the junk in your home will not be causing you to miss out on life, but cause you to be able to live life with Jesus Christ who gave you the life in the first place.
