Family
Officially, the new year begins on January 1. But most parents of school age children will tell you that, for them, the new year really starts on the first day of any new school year.
Stay at home moms breathe a sigh of relief. "Yeah!", they think, "I made it through the summer. I'm not insane." And they get busy putting their houses back in order. I am assuming that part--I personally just let a lot of house cleaning go during the summer because, let's be honest, what's the point? You clean a room, and exit to go do another, and when you get back to the first one, it's already messed up again.
Working moms breathe a sigh of relief because, at last, you know exactly where your child is during those precious school hours. You don't have to wonder if your child turned off the stove or oven, or if they remembered to lock the doors behind them as they left, going somewhere, or, heaven forbid, that they forgot their house key when they left! Or that persistent, nagging question that has taken permanent residency in your mind--"What are they really up to when I'm not there?"
New clothes, new shoes, new backpacks and school supplies. New opportunities. New schedules.
Yes, a whole new year. A chance to start over, and maybe excel in previously difficult areas of your life. A chance to improve.
Our God graciously gives us a new start every morning. But there are other times throughout the year when we really feel, that yes, this is our time to move ahead. We feel strong and ready to face those challenges that we have avoided until now, for whatever reason.
For me, this always happens at the start of the school year. This is when I feel the most that, yes, old things will be put behind me, and all things can become new.
When does your new year start?
