With a prayer in my heart I faced her and gently began asking questions about the Koran and what the Koran says about Jesus Christ. When I read portions of the Koran in the English language, I began to have a clearer understanding of what some Muslim beliefs were. I recognized that Muslims have very great "respect" for Jesus while they refuse to worship Him.. placing Him on equal footing with Moses and Mohammed. As we talked, we moved out of the bathroom to a comfortable place in the library where the discussion could be continued. I could see that the discussion was going to center on the Trinity and Jesus' place as the Son of God and worthy of worship. The question of whether the New Testament is a trustworthy Book came up as she believed (along with all Muslims) that the text has been compromised.
The conversation continued and God provided me with the courage necessary to begin describing to her why the Bible is trustworthy. God also made very clear that the focus needed to be on Jesus and as I centered my conversation on Him, my conviction grew stronger and she continued to ask questions and to listen. After describing what Jesus had done in my life in answering specific prayers she acknowledged that the freedom to have this discussion was new to her (she came from Pakistan). She was surprised that I was calm even when she was questioning the Bible (the foundation for my beliefs). I acknowledged that her questions were not threatening to me... that the truth remained steadfast.
So... take heart and share the Gospel!! God truly does give the right words and the most perfect timing. He will give us the courage we need and as we "sow seeds" the harvest will be reaped to His glory.
