I often read about lookng to other, more experienced Christians and learning from their behaviour. When i think of examples,i always look to my Mum and Dad. I notice how they re act, in ways that i admire so much.
My Mum listens, and could listen(and be interested) for hours if needed. She will do anything to help anyone, and lives to go out of her own way for people, including me. She would never create an argument, never makes a fuss. She is the one i'm grateful for just being there when i'm feeling anxious or awkward.I've noticed for example, that if there are 4 of us at home, and only 3 cakes left, good old Mum will sacrifice hers to one of us and happily settle for a yoghurt, and if asked, would insist that she is on a diet anyway!Good old Mum-a spiritual template for me,although i'm not sure i would be so sharing with my cake!My Mum gives quietly in a way that i imagine pleases God.(Matthew 6:1-4)
As for my Dad,he is a classic example of a peacemaker(that and a tea-maker and blessed are those).I've never known anyone yet in my life, who absolutely never shouts, answers back or retaliates-neither will he put on airs or fronts for others.I often refer to him when i put my business where it's not asked for, or speak too soon and too much and instantly regret it(Proverbs10:19),for my Dad seems to hear and see in silence, and only comment if he's asked.I,ve rarely seen him angry,so when he is i know it must be serious!
I have lovely parents, who have stayed by me in spite of all my foolishness and pain i've brought upon them in the past, and i feel they deserve an article just for them-if it wasn't for them,i wouldn't even be here!
Thankyou Lord, for blessing me with parents who i can look to as mentors, and learn so much just by observing their behaviour and love towards You and others.I am sure Heaven already has 2 v.i.p seats reserved!
