I am returning to my roots. No, I am not talking about my hair, although that could apply here. My hair is a hot topic. Not as 'does she or doesn't she?'. Everyone already knows I do. Every time a little gray creeps in, the question is 'will she or won't she?'. As one of my beloved friends is fond of saying, "Are we dyeing this month or not?".
I am referring to my spiritual roots. The network of faith upon which I stand.
I cannot sit still. I have to move all the time. I fidget, swing my feet, tap my fingers. I speed through the house like a madwoman, doing stuff, and then redoing things I've already done. I live with other people-messy people-messy MEN. Alas, I am the sole female in the bunch, and they just don't get it. You would think all this activity would be a good thing, yet------.
"Be still and know that I am God." Well. I certainly know that He is God. It's the 'be still' part that I am struggling with. The only time I am still, other than when I sleep, is when I am reading. I've even found a way around that! Books on tape. A wonderful invention. Perfect for a multitasker like me. I can 'read' while I clean house, cook dinner, do dishes. I can 'read' while I'm driving or exercising.
All this busyness can be overwhelming.
Therefore, I am forcing myself to stop, unplug, turn off, and be still. Even if it's only for five minutes a day. I think God is trying to tell me to slow down and just BE. This won't put me in the running for the "LAZY" girl award, will it? I feel like if I don't force myself to stop moving, I might miss a message from Him.
Sometimes, just being still is as important as exercise, healthy eating, and regular checkups.
Are you too busy?
I'm going to sit with My Friend, and study the Book that, however old it may be, is still so very relevant in this generation. I will sit still and listen while He shows me new and exciting, wonderful things.
I will learn, eventually, how to 'Be Still'.
