Should we?YES.Could we?YES.Would we?YES.Shall we?
I sit here in the comfort of my place with all the amenities and hearts desires to hand, having just eaten as much as i pleased of the food of my choice, hardly remembering that it is provided to keep me alive-not to over indulge on or waste. How shameful our society has become when we compare it to those who spend their days walking 27 miles to collect and carry dirty water for their families to drink, and possibly die from.
How about the lottery,or game shows with cash prizes?Just one of those episodes could probably feed a small country for a week/month.Often people will say,''This is why i find it hard to believe in a God who allows thisto happen.'"Talk about passing the buck! What a terrible excuse for an excuse!Does it not occurr to them that God has already done it!He has supplied US with all the means and resorces we need to give to them-why do we think we have too much and'more than enough'?In fact, even those who choose not to believe in Jesus could still help them in this way.If we donated all the money that goes into one day of t.v,it would surely make a difference of life and death. It would even require no effort from us-how disgraceful that no-one has or will consider that gesture.
As Christians, and i speak about myself,i shouldn't get too cosy about my life, and only focusing on how God comforts and soothes, because i also need to be willing and prepared for trials and hard work-when we take up our crosses,Jesus will even help us to carry the load. All too often i spend my time counting my blessings,in my own sweet time, treating myself and family here and there, plodding along, cushioned in the safety of the Lord and finding it very easy to give thanks.I've just noticed that i never eagerly ask for some work or a challenge.I think that me for one should hurry out of my comfort zone and get my hands dirty! However,it's hard to know how to start, but we could all start out in small ways like leaving helpful leaflets in phone boxes,or smiling at someone who seems lonely today. These things will gradually build up into an unselfish, caring and 'willing to give'attitude and by then,we will be more prepared to know where to start in bigger areas. After all,if we can't or won't smile at someone who looks unhappy, how will we manage to raise the spirits of thousands in another country,or even have enough effort to get the resourses together? No, we have to start realistically, and what is achievable today.(Jesus tells us we will all ways have poor people-Mark 14,v 7)It will have to be a 'slowly but surely'process.God needs to make sure we can handle it reliably. It is no use dreaming of great achievements whilst currently doing nothing.Less talk and more doing i think, for me anyway.I'm going to put a leaflet in a phone box and smile at an old person today
