VALENTINE'S DAY MEANS MOM ...

MARIAN (MARY) HELEN SHELLICK BRODA
(2/14/24 - 9/6/93)

(V)alentines are here again, made of hearts and ruffles and lace.

(A)t this special time of year, I see Mom's charming face.

(L)ovingly, the angels brought Mother this month to earth;

(E)xcitedly these cherubs made February 14th her day of birth.

(N)o other birthday would befit my elegant Queen.

(T)he silent sacrifices she's made have not gone unseen.

(I)n fever and in health, Mom has beside me stood.

(N)ever enough! The more for me she could do -- she would.

(E)specially on St. Valentine's Day, we express our highest Love,

(S)o today for you, Mom, I humbly kneel in Thanksgiving to Our God above.

(D)arling Cupid ... delicious candies ... dainty cards ... and delicate flowers,

(A)re symbols of Love's sweet magical powers.

(Y)our Love, Mom, above all my other loves towers.

(M)onth-to-month, year-to-year -- you've always been near.

(E)ncouragingly you've wiped each tear and took away each fear.

(A)ll through school, you were my A+'s tool.

(N)ever do you fail to daily teach me Love -- The Golden Rule.

(S)o Loyal! so Regal! so Royal! ... You are my precious Jewel.

(M)om, you are the best mother and my best friend;

(O)f my pains and troubles, you tend, transforming them and their Joys you send.

(M)y every wish -- HAPPY VALENTINE-BIRTHDAY today ... and MANY MORE (!)

Lovingly, Diane-Lynn

Three years after I wrote this poem, Holy God took my Mom to Heaven. I can still see her as if she was still here. The memories never do leave. The pain of loss Holy God heals but He keeps the memories alive within us. Maybe He does that so we can role-play our lives ... how we would do things differently ... or how we would not change anything that happened.

At my mother's knee and my grandmom's knee ... I learned all about Holy Creator. My mom, Mary, and my grandmom, Anna, were my greatest teachers.

In humble Faith, Hope, and Charity,

DIANE-LYNN BRODA

Elizabeth, New Jersey (USA)
