TAPESTRY THROUGH A READING-GLASS
A forest is more than a covey of trees.
A tapestry, more than a throng of threads.
The sum is greater than its parts.
A pattern emerges that transcends;
A wood is seen
When sight of trees ends.
To study tapestry through a reading-glass,
Is to make of the weaver's art, a farce.
Reduction is the mind's seduction,
A lure that leads to wit's destruction;
"We murder to dissect".
In defection from completeness we neglect
The goal which is the meaning.
We find ourselves lost in a wood;
And lost, a consummate knowledge of trees
Is not to our good.
