Walking through her house slowly, Laurana walked into her kitchen. Reaching up to the cabinet, she opened it and pulled out her pain pills. Her arthritis was acting up again. She was clinging to the scripture that said in 1 Peter 2:24 that by the stripes that Jesus bore for her, that she was made healed. So far, she was still hurting and it looked like nothing much was happening. She had been standing on the word for three months. Taking the pills she placed them in her mouth, then after a sip of water, she swallowed them, and back in the cabinet went the bottle of pills.
Making her way into the living room, she picked up her Bible and quoted the scriptures that said she was healed.
The Serpent was lazing on Laurana’s sofa in her living room, when she came in and sat down.
Laurana knew she shouldn’t be speaking to him, but she didn’t know what he was, or how he was able to talk to her, and she was merely checking him out. A talking serpent was something interesting and different after all; maybe God won’t mind her talking to him, just for a short while.
The Serpent sidled over to Laurana and whispered, “What are you looking for in that Bible?”
Looking at the words, Laurana said, “The word says I’m healed by the stripes of Jesus. I’m believing that my joints are healed of this arthritis by the stripes that Jesus bore for me,” She explained to the Serpent. Didn’t he know this about God?
“Humm… Has God realllly said you’re healed??” The Serpent hissed in a whisper. “Hath God really said you’re healed?”
“I think so. It says right here, by the stripes of Jesus I am healed.” Laurana from listening to the Serpent putting doubts into her head wondered about the truth of the word of God.
“Wellll, but what if that’s not what it really means, Laurana? What if it means something else? What if healing isn’t for today? Did God really say healing would still be here after two thousand years? Maybe there isn’t anymore healing,” the Serpent whispered, his words filled with seduction for the dark side.
Something didn’t feel right to Laurana. Surely the word was true. Why was the Serpent calling God a liar? At least it seemed that was what he was doing.
“Hath God really said you’re healed??” The Serpent asked again.
Suddenly, Laurana knew she had made a terrible mistake letting this Serpent into her house. She had made a mistake in continuing to listen to his lies about what God had promised her in His word.
Boldly, she looked at the Serpent, and said, “It is written, Serpent, God’s word is yea (yes) and amen! It is written, Jesus said, “I am the same today, tomorrow, and forever, and my promises and words never change. God can be counted on to speak the truth.” It is YOU are lying, Serpent! It is written, “By the stripes of Jesus I AM healed!” Laurana felt strength come into her as she spoke those words. “Be gone with you, Serpent! Be gone with you, in the name of Jesus!”
The Serpents eyes grew big and round as he heard Laurana speak the words of Jesus with such boldness. A fear he had not known before came over him, and full of fright and fear, he rose up to flee from the woman’s house. He ran out the door, wanting to get as far from Laurana as he could. Her words anointed and coming out of her mouth wounded him internally. Shuddering, he fled back to the dark domain, from whence he came to report to hell all that had happened.
