The candle's tiny yellow flame,
His only source of light,
Illuminates the cabin's frame
Throughout the lonely night.
Outside 'mid shadows black and deep
The cabin's windows glow.
All through the night, when others sleep,
He searches books to know
What wise men think so he may find,
Through prior testament,
Inspiring thoughts that fill his mind
With cogent sentiment.
