Hugs are the best therapy in the world. The word “HUG” can help us remember the best way to show others we care about them.
H is for Helping Hands make Happy Hearts. We can do things for people we care about anytime.
Jesus put His hands to work and helped many people. Jesus was happy to see people find real joy and happiness through the Father. In John 4:34(NIV), the Bible says, "'My food,' said Jesus, 'is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.'" He said that what He had done to help the Samaritan woman was more exciting and fulfilling than food.
The letter U stands for Understanding and Unconditional love. A hug reveals our compassion and desire to show love.
Jesus is our example as He showed love for children. Mark 10:16 (NIV) tells us that He "took the children in His arms, put His hands on them and blessed them." Children have a huge capacity for unconditional love. Jesus says in Luke 18:17(NIV), "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." Therefore, be like a child.
And finally, the letter G stands for Giving Good Gifts. While anyone can give something away that they don't want, it is harder to give things that require sacrifice and effort.
Jesus talked about the good gifts the Heavenly Father gives us all in Matthew 7:11b -12 (NIV). "...how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him? So in everything, do to others what you would have them to do you..." God gives what we need, when we need it, and sometimes before we even ask for it. Because of what God does for us, we should do for others.
God sends hugs to all of us every day. When no one else is around to bring us comfort we can look to God for a hug. Jesus promised peace and comfort for every Christian because of the Holy Spirit, or "the Comforter" in John 14:26-27 (NIV). Jesus said, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
God gave the world the ultimate hug when He sacrificed His Son, Jesus, for us. God's purpose was to help us understand His unconditional love for us and that we might receive His free gift of grace. To receive this gift you must simply be like a child and accept it. Realize your need for His love and ask for His hands to take over your life and grow you up to be like Him.
