God is Love; that is well known.
He is compassionate, so is our Lord Jesus.
That He is merciful is clearly shown
His grace is sufficient for us.
Whom God loves He disciplines.
That we may not go astray
The fruitful ones He prunes
That there be more fruit to display.
Though the old was “vengeance”
The new has brought forgiveness
Our Lord by grace our faith enhance
Through the blood that establishes newness.
Beware lest you attract God’s wrath.
Though His anger is but for a while,
He disciplines if you move from the path.
Only to bring you back in the file.
By faith you and I please God.
By strength we cannot prevail
Father draws with the rod.
We move nearer or we fail.
