A Child's Bane

A Child born to infirmity,
a life lived in pain.
Mandatory non-conformity
was this child's bane.

Though friends and peers have shed few tears
for this boys disease,
for he seldom showed his pain or fear
unless upon his knees.

How many nights in prayer spent,
thanking God above,
not asking Him to circumvent
but only for His love.

With faith so strong and body weak,
this boy lived day to day,
his spirit willing, kind and meek,
like soft and supple clay.

His family waited patiently
for God to heal the lame.
How unfair an atrocity
upon their family lain.

They held him dear so many years
and prayed "God won't you please,
our brother, son and friend hold near
and conquer his disease."

How many nights in prayer spent
asking God above,
pleading "Won't you circumvent
and demonstrate your love?"

But oh how wrong they were to seek,
how wrong they were to pray,
not for Gods will, but to critique
and criticize His way.

Now this boy and family
have one mind and the same
outlook on this atrocity
upon their family lain.

For friends and peers throughout the years
have seen a boy diseased,
overcome his pain and fear
by praying on his knees.

They've seen him selflessly present
unto his God above,
a body torn and frail and spent,
a sacrifice of love.

And through his circumstance unique,
the Lord gave him a way
to reach out to the lost and speak
into the night some day.

So anytime we glorify
our God's most holy name,
whatever price is justified
and is not paid in vain.

That every ear will one day hear,
this is our lords decree.
It is our duty plain and clear
to help him plant the seeds.

If through our toil or torment
we point to God above,
how can we say it wasn't meant
to show the world His love?

If in our pain or future bleak
we let our Lord convey
His word to those who search and seek,
He'll raise us up one day.
