Disciples Rowing On The Sea
We can learn many truths about the role of the church in the world from studying the historical event of the disciples rowing upon the sea found in Mark - Chapter 6.
The church cannot be ambivalent to Christ. Ambivalence in serving Christ is not really serving Him at all. This is a repeated message throughout the Bible. Many times Christ warns us of this and we will look at some key verses first and then finish this topic by focusing on the biblical lesson found in Mark 6. We can read in Luke 9: 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. This speaks volumes on the attitude of a true believer. We go forward with our heart, mind and soul placing complete trust in Jesus Christ. We can also read in James 1: 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. The Word of God warns us here again that if you come to him with a lack of trust, he/she will not receive anything of the Lord. These prayers and cries are made not in the bold faith in which God bestows to believers.
The church should be focused on helping man to know about citizenship in Heaven. This is most important and needs full attention. The church is to minister to the craving souls. John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, feed my sheep. Once people do come to Christ and believe in His atoning work on the cross, they will need nourishment for spiritual growth and that growth comes from daily reading in the Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
When reading Mark 6:48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
Scripture focus : and would have passed by them.
What frightening words as the Lord will not give us any notice if we lack confidence and trust in Him .
He will quietly and without warning, pass us by. How terrible for those that are passed by .
May we never be in that situation . We can thank and pray that Lord Jesus taught a critical lesson to the disciples and one that I pray all churches and those truly seeking to know Christ will obey. May the Lord add His blessings to this study in His Word.
Blessings to all,
Julie Pisacane
