What the American Flag Means to Me

When I look at the flag as it sways proudly in the breeze, I am reminded that freedom is a very valuable and costly right.

The flag of America means much to me. I can choose any vocational career. I have opportunity to become educated in some of the best schools in this country. Most of all I have the right to worship God in freedom.

I am reminded as I gaze upon the flag that men like Washington, Jefferson and Patrick Henry and others were willing to pay with their lives to make America a free country. Even in today's society military families are continuing to give of themselves to maintain freedom and democracy. To keep our land one that God can continue to bless.

I am heartbroken when I see others disgracing the American flag by burning it. Then to see an amendment in the House not go through to protect the flag, because of hindering freedom of speech rights. Itís ironic that one of our elected Congressmen who fought for our country. Coward under political fire and voted against the amendment. Where is our love for our flag and all it represents? We need to over flood our elected officials with phone calls, e-mails, and personal appointments. To let them know there is a majority who still believes and respects out flag. So that when this amendment returns to the House, it will go through!

The flag is a symbol of blood shed from families who willingly give their sons and daughters to protect our land from other destructive nations. We need to honor those who are not afraid to call upon God for His leadership to maintain our freedom.

Where is our patriotism and love for this country blessed by God? Where is our moral to take a stand for all this country is founded up on for the people and by the people? Doesnít our flag mean anything to us? Or it is something we have come to take for granted?

As we celebrate our nationís 230th birthday this 4th of July. Take time to reflect on what the American flag mean to you?
