Encouragement
I am writing to encourage those out there that might be going through some pretty difficult times.
My wife and I went through about six years of hardships with family, friends, church, money, jobs, and mostly our marriage. We had heard some good preaching on how the Christian life was easy and how we as Christians made it difficult. Well, I was doing my best (so I thought) according to what I thought was right (not necessarily what God thought was right). And still life, well, just wasn’t going according to plan.
Then I had come to the end of my rope, so to speak, and I went to my pastor and told him the situation and he began to tell me the same thing, that Christianity is easy, and how we make it hard, but then he went further and gave me examples. When he finished, I had realized, they were right and I was wrong.
When we choose to follow our Lord and Saviour, by choice now, there are many choices that have already been made for us. The path that God puts us on there will be choices, but in following God, He makes the choices, and we just follow. Sound too easy I know, but it really is. Since I have put God back in the driver’s seat, where He belongs, decisions have been easier. Because I don’t have to make a decision whether or not to do this or that, I just simply say, “ does it hinder me from following my God on the path that He has laid out before me”, and letting the Holy Spirit guide, if it does, the answer is a NO! If it doesn’t, then, do as the Lord leads.
Life is hard sometimes, but God is gracious. Christianity shouldn’t be difficult, because we follow a GREAT GOD, but we make it hard by not doing one simple thing, SUBMIT! God will bring to our path good and bad to strengthen, guide, instruct, and sometimes discipline if needed. We always want the good in our lives and the blessings, but are not willing to do what it takes to receive those blessings.
SUBMIT.
We want to be second in command over Egypt like Joseph, but don’t want to go into slavery or prison. We want to be king over a land like David, but we are not willing to fight a few giants along the way.
Submit means, to follow Christ no matter what comes our way in life. And as we submit, Christ gives the strength to go through it. Proverbs 3: 5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Psalms 73:25-26, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but my God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”
And read I Samuel 15:22, it is better to obey than sacrifice. I encourage all those that are going through difficult times, keep trusting in the Lord with all your might and He will help you through, all you have to do is submit to Him.
