Promises That Are True
Daily promises from God’s word
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
This is a great and precious promise from God’s word. As followers as Christ, when we sin we are forgiven. Jesus paid the price for our sins and all we need to do is acknowledge the wrong and we receive His forgiveness.
Because I love God I desire to live to please Him in all I do, say, and think. But because I still have my fallen human nature, I tend to fall short in my walk with the Lord. It is wonderful to know that God’s mercy - His unmerited favor- is already there for us. When I allow the kids to make me mad, when I judge the guy next to me in church, God forgiveness has already been purchased for me. All I need to do is receive that gift.
I thank the Lord for this undeserved gift. We should always seek to do what pleases our Lord because we love Him; but when we fail it’s great to know that He is there with forgiveness stretch out toward us. His forgiveness is not like ours; often I’ll say I forgive, but still I will remember the wrong done to me. God’s forgiveness is complete. He cleanses us; He washes the filth of sin away from us and He chooses to no longer remember.
Next time, when you find you have fallen in a sin, come humbly before our heavenly Father, confess and rejoice knowing you are forgiven. The people around you may try to hold you in the sin, but your Savior has forgiven, cleansed, and renewed you. Rejoice in this great promise.
