Since I was a child I have loved the 4th of July Celebrations. In those long ago days there wasn't the big multimillion dollar extravaganzas like today, but about every family had their own special celebration out in the back yard or field, and what a time it was. The old, wounded veterans would attempt to stretch their long shrunken uniforms from the First War, or the younger ones had the WW2 regalia. And then came the boys and men not all that much older than me from the 'Police Action' in Korea. There would be real Cokes for the kids and much stronger libation for the adults, at least until the men really got in their cups, and then children wise beyond their years knew how to reach into the wash tub filled with ice and well you know.
On occasion as the evening wore on some vet with one sleeve pinned up would find the courage in the bottom of a Pabst can to offer a prayer of thanksgiving for America. Everyone would bow their head and the prayer would thank God for the power to whip the off the Nazis and Yips. Colorful words as to the kind of Nazis and Yips usually accompanied the prayer. I recall some of the prayers from those long ago 4ths and I assure you the verbiage would do most modern clergypersons proud.
We have much to thank the Lord for circa 2006. And we must never forget the price paid and being paid for the continuation of this celebration of Liberty. Please give ear to the below statement:
"The Romans used to say that courage is not the only virtue, but it's the only one that makes the other virtues possible." -- Benjamin Netanyahu to Brian Lamb on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Sept. 21, 2001
We each pray that Americans will continue to have the courage to stand up for our country and to actually become a true Christian nation.
I personally thank the Lord for our great country and for the men and women who love her, and also have the courage to help me as I do the part the Lord Jesus has given to me to help fallen men and women, get up through faith or renewed faith in Christ and become courageous citizens, citizens who will hold high our way of life.
Netanyahu taught courage is essential if we are to have any of the other virtues. He is right. I trust you to pray for me each day that I will have the courage to keep on the firing line for Jesus, til He comes.
