Alex, male, 6 lines: Precise and uses big words (Christian)
Jessie, female, 6 lines: Down-to-earth and loving (Christian)
Grace, female, 6 lines: Hardened and skeptical (Lost)

(Walking in across stage)

Grace: (To JESSIE) Yeah Jessie, I just don’t know that I believe that Jesus was actually God. I mean for one thing, Jesus like died or whatever, and you just don’t kill God.

Alex: You know Grace, the Jews of Jesus’ day actually didn’t think so either. They expected the Messiah to come in power, overthrow the Roman Empire, and rule in glory.

Grace: (Agreeing, but without actually knowing what he’s talking about) Yeah. The whole dying thing just doesn’t fit into my image of God.

Jessie: But, without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness of sin.

Alex: (Professor-like, actually expecting GRACE to understand) God, because He is inherently holy, couldn’t leave our inequity unpunished. So because Jesus was without sin, He became a sin sacrifice for us, redeeming us and covering us with the righteousness of God.

(GRACE stares blankly. JESSIE stares also, understanding but knowing GRACE would not.)

Jessie: (Shaking her head) Ignore Alex. Here’s the deal: God, perfect. People, not perfect. We sin. Perfect God can’t be around the stain of sin, no matter how much He loves us. We can’t keep from sinning, we’ve messed up and we can’t fix it ourselves. So God sent His Son Jesus, who never sinned, and His perfect blood paid our debt. He built a bridge between us and God, because we were separated, so that now, through Jesus, we can know God.

Grace: But why? I mean, Jessie, why would God care? (Shrugging shoulders)

Alex: You’re His child, His precious creation. He would do anything for you.

Jessie: He already has.

Grace: But nobody would die for me. You guys don’t know me all that well; I’m not a very good person.

Jessie: It doesn’t matter; God still loves you. Jesus lived a perfect life and then was beaten and scorned and nailed to a cross to save you, Grace, because He loves you.

Alex: You forgot the crown of thorns.

(JESSIE stares at him)

Alex: You know, the... (motions with hands). Never mind.

Grace: No... nobody loves me. Nobody ever has.

Alex: But God does love you. If no one in your life has ever shown you love, know that God does love you. Before you were ever born He wanted to have a relationship with you, individually, and Jesus died to make it possible. (Professor-like) Did you know that crucifixion was actually so painful that they made up a new word for it- excruciating-

Jessie: Alex! (Seriously, getting back to the point) The blood Jesus shed was to save you, Grace.

Grace: (Wants to believe, but too amazed) I just don’t think I can understand that... I don’t know what to call it.

Jessie: (With finality) It’s called love.
