She is not dead!

"She is not dead...Searching for the Church of God"

I sought her like gold, over land and sea
Compelled by a longing inside of me.

"I've seen her," they said, "on the mountain top."
My heart took to flight, it just would not stop.

I pictured her warmth, and her strong embrace.
But, oh, what I found when I reached that place!

I found she was climbing to higher heights,
Her vision was seeing herself up in lights

I asked for her help but she asked of me
To lift up her name for the world to see.

Refusing, I turned and I said with a sigh
"It's Christ alone who should be lifted high."

"We've seen her," they whispered again to me,
"Emerged in her studies, she's down by the sea."

I ran off to find her and take a look
But found she was hiding behind a book.

Surrounded by many a dying soul
In need of her help, but that wasn't her goal.

I asked of her what she could do for me,
"Nothing", she said, "for you have no degree."

Her mind filled with knowledge but lacking love.
In action, denying the power thereof.

Then as I turned, I just happened to meet
Those who had seen her at work down the street.

I smiled to think of such noble a task,
Sharing the gospel with all who would ask.

I found she was active among the crowd
Boldly proclaiming the gospel out loud.

But then, after watching for quite a while,
My heart broke in two and I lost my smile.

For all who'd respond she would then disown
Leaving them helpless to fend for their own.

I asked if she'd given them food or care
Or given them armor that they could wear.

I asked if she'd taught them to fight the fight
If they'd been taught how to walk in the light.

I asked if they'd someone to lead their way,
But she was too busy, all she could say

Was "I don't know what things you are speaking of,
They don't need such nonsense, they just need love."

And just as I turned to walk out of there
I heard she'd perform at the city square.

Excited, I ran, full of hope within
But found when I got there, I couldn't go in.

When I learned I must pay I went into a rage
Insisting they take me to her backstage!

I mentioned the cost, so that she would explain,
But her desire was only to entertain.

There she stood, draped in a beautiful gown.
Rehearsing her song for the perfect sound.

I asked if she'd time to seek God that day
But practice had left her no time to pray.

She drew in the masses, that's what I heard
But none in her audience could quote The Word.

They fed on emotion, no fruit they'd bear
"They're dying," I said, but she did not care.

"It's fun and they're happy, now isn't it clear,
I'm giving them just what they want to hear."

So disappointed I ran through the door
And fell to my knees on the desert floor.

"I looked for your church, dear Lord," I cried
"But I could not find her, she must have died!"

With much compassion, my Savior said,
"She is only sleeping, she is not dead.

Now rise to your feet, you've got work to do
For behold, she's sleeping inside of you!

Now seek out the lost and my word proclaim,
Use the authority found in my name.

The soil is ready go plant the seed.
Show them my love, not in word, but in deed.

Care for the wounded; give sight to the blind,
Set free each captive that you may find.

Visit the lonely, provide for the poor
And when you have done this, go back and do more.

Lead every sinner to Calvary's hill.
Teach them the beauty of doing my will.

Teach them to fight with the edge of the sword
Teach them to come unto me as their Lord.

Teach them to serve me with love and then
Teach them that soon I will come again.

Go now! Go quickly, you've got work to do.
Remember, she's sleeping inside of you!
