The children leave the village
just before the fall of night,
the strong ones carry the small
and weak in their daily flight.
Barefoot, they walk for miles,
with moonlight to show the way,
to “Noah’s Ark” in Gulu
where it’s safe for them to play.
Joseph Kony’s LRA has hunted
them for twenty years,
the boys tortured, the girls are raped,
beneath their mother’s tears.
The “Lord’s Resistance Army” is
the name of this rebel hoard,
“We use the ten commandments,
and do the work of the Lord.”
Over two million civilians,
have been forced to flee their home,
to escape the resistance army
to the shelters they must roam.
Then early in the morning,
the children get on their feet
and start the long walk home again,
without a bite to eat.
World Vision tries to help these kids,
but there’s only so much they can do,
they can’t continue helping out,
unless you help out too.
