There is one chapter in the Bible
That could bring peace to the world today.
For there would be no more wars or hatred
If we’d just heed what it had to say.
It follows the one commandment
That Christ left for us to do.
And that was to love God and each other
The way He loves me and you.
Paul’s definition of love from God
Can be found in First Corinthians thirteen.
And with God’s guidance
I’ll try and explain what it means.
First Paul shows the importance
That God places in love.
There is no other gift of the Spirit
That can ever be placed above.
God measures the stature of a man or woman
By the ingredients of each one’s love.
The instrument used is like a prison
Separating all parts as He shines His light above.
He carefully weighs and measures
Each and every part.
And then compares the elements
He finds within our heart.
The first element is patience
Love waiting in the wings to serve.
A gently, quiet understanding Spirit
Always ready to do more than observe.
Then Paul points out true love is generous
As He says “Love envieth not”
Which means true love is in giving
Not counting all you’ve got.
Then there is humility
Forgetting the good works that we do.
Taking credit for our works on earth
Only robs the rewards God has for you.
Courtesy then follows,
A quality you might not associate with love.
But showing respect for our fellow man
Is showing respect for our Father above.
Unselfishness is the next element
And one of the hardest to gain.
But if we love through God’s heart
We’ll find no importance in things obtained.
The greatest act of love God showed
Was also His most unselfish one.
That was when He knew to save mankind
He had to sacrifice His only begotten Son.
Then He weighs our temper
Toward our fellow man.
No matter what evil is inflicted on us
Do we try and understand?
Or do we lash out in anger
As if that’s all we know to do?
Do you realize that destroys your testimony
Or do you even have a clue?
Then Paul says we must not “rejoice in iniquity”
But only rejoice in what is true.
That means only looking for the good in others
Not in any evil they might do.
“There abides faith, hope and love”
Paul goes on to say.
“But the greatest of these is love”
That can’t be expressed any better way.
If God used His prism
And separated the love within your heart
Would it measure up to God’s sweet love
Or would it just be tainted and tart?
God has done so much for us
He’s so richly blessed both me and you.
All He asks us I return
Is for us to love each other with a heart that’s true.
So, take heed to what Paul wrote
Practice it every single day.
And you’ll find true inner peace
As you love each other, God’s way.

And separated the love within your heart
Would it measure up to God’s sweet love
Or would it just be tainted and tart?" --- This makes one stop and really think. Very good. Thomas
