In the distance I could hear
them sneaking up on me,
I just stoked my fire
and sat there fearlessly.
Time stood still, (and so did I,)
as I read my book,
I could sense them moving closer
just to have a look.
I turned a page, and turned my ears
toward the sounds I heard.
They signaled to each other,
without speaking a word.
Finally they were close enough,
and made a jump for me,
my two sweet grand daughters,
giggling with glee.
I knew that they would capture me,
from the very start,
since the day that they were born,
they’ve both captured my heart.
