Recently, some headlines on a United States news site caught my attention.
The Senate and Congress both had bills relating to morals and values. The outcomes were decided as follows:
The US Congress increased the broadcasting indecency fine to $325,000 per incident from its former level of $32,000.
The US Senate rejected an amendment to ban same-sex marriages.
At first glance, it appears that Congress got something right, but the Senate missed. Let’s take a closer look.
Congress may believe that they are striving to uphold morals by levying fines for indecency. Although this fine may help, it isn’t really a ban on indecency, but a mere slap for being brazen. If we can accept small levels of indecency now, those levels will increase over time. Like a frog placed in a cool pot that is slowly heated, we will wonder why morals and values are suddenly so low.
The US Senate rejected a ban on the same-sex marriage amendment by one vote, 49-48. However, 45 of the 50 states have enacted legislation to define traditional marriage and ban same-sex marriage. It seems as if the Senate is acting in direct opposition to our wishes.
Many people will shrug these events off as just a “sign of the times.” Interpreting the signs of the times with the Bible, we find that “many false prophets will appear and deceive many people” (Matthew 24:11).
Further, we find that “there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves” (2 Peter 2:1).
We must be aware of false prophets and teachers. They have sly ways of introducing corruption to our society, while making it appear acceptable. Think of the buzzword “tolerance” and the effect that is having on our country. As we become tolerant, we lower our morals and values. We forget the commandments set down by God.
I love this country, and pray for its leaders and people. We still have freedom to worship Jesus. Will that freedom someday be taken away because we are lax now in our attempt to uphold values and morals?
As we are reminded in Romans 10:15 “"How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" As Christians, let us stand for righteousness in Jesus’ name and work on bringing our country back to high moral and value standings.
We can make a difference by voting and writing to Senators and Congressmen. If we are aware of issues that promote decline, we can fight against them.

Thanks for this article. We need to keep note of this when re-election time comes up for some senators. We, the voters, hold the "hiring rights". Thomas
