To teach is to influence a life
You may only play a small part
But that part may prove most valuable.
To teach is to touch a life
You may only have a brief contact
But that contact may change its course
To teach is to enrich a life
You may add only a little flavor or color
But that little bit may create great depth.
To teach is to transform a life
You may not feel that you made much difference
But that difference might be between light and dark.
To teach is not to receive quick riches, results or rewards
You may feel that it is not worthwhile
But those riches, results and rewards are like diamonds just needing time.
To teach is more that transferring facts
To teach is to impact the lives
With which you have been entrusted.

This message is sound. So many times we listen to others who have great impact on our lives and just as equally in our teaching - formal or informal - we make an impact on the lives of others, sometimes without our realizing it. Your poem has conveyed this in a very poignant way. Thank you for sharing.
