The most amazing feeling in life is experiencing the presence of God surrounding you. Words can’t really express your feelings when God is with you, but there is a strong presence of a great love so piercing that your body has to release it in one way or another. Most people cry, some rock, some vocally release a deep praise where anyone around them can feel the power. Most people do not believe that God desires to be with them because certain things they have done. The Old Testament gives vivid details of God’s people taking the wrong path; nevertheless God still chose to love, guide and protect them in their sin.
In reading and studying the book of Genesis after the fall of Adam and Eve, the encounters God had with his people were truly amazing. The story of Cain and Abel reveals God presence, speaking and mercy being among us. In the story, one brother (Cain) is jealous of the other brother (Abel) so he decides to kill him. The Lord and Cain begin to have a conversation about what Cain had done to his brother and the Lord gives Cain his punishment. In the response to the punishment, Cain states, “My punishment is more than I can bear…and I will be hidden from your presence…” (Genesis 4:13-14 NIV). In studying further, God speaks with Cain to let him know although he has killed his brother, he will not allow the same undertaking (death) to happen to him. Although Cain suffered the consequences for his actions and cursed his descendants, how amazing it is to be allowed by God to continue on with life and reproduce a family of your own even as an unrepentant murderer.
No matter what we do or where we are in life, God’s love covers it all. There were many great leaders who missed the mark on several occasions including Abraham the “father of many nations” fell to the callings of the flesh by lying (Gen 12:11-13). As innocent as it was, he thought he knew better than God. How many of us believe we know more than God? Thinking you know better than God is pride. Pride will destroy your life ever so slowly. The more pride you have, the more consequences you and your descendants will have to persevere through. It brings favor for generations to come to be like Jesus!
Even though he had all the power on earth and in heaven, He chose not to use it. Instead, he prayed and spoke with His father often. His Father’s Word (The Bible) was deeply within him because he spent time studying it. It was the time and the studying that gave Him wisdom, and also helped Him to hear His Father voice. Because He knew His Father and His Father’s love, he humbled himself before men and by that same great love he laid down his life for them (us). How long has it been since you’ve experienced the presence of God’s great love? Would you like to have an encounter and experience with Jesus? When was your last heartfelt conversation with Jesus? If it’s been a while take heart! His Word says,
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:35-39 NIV.
It is my prayer that this scripture will help you know how much God unconditionally loves you. He’s waiting to spend time with the one He’s loves. That’s you! If you haven’t accepted Jesus in your life maybe the time is now!
