A song by Ray Charles, “Georgia on My Mind” was played as part of the funeral service for my grandmother in law, Georgia.
As Ray Charles sang, a small group of clouds parted and the sun shined down, warming our faces.
Throughout the song, people exchanged smiles and knowing glances about who had decided to join us.
To further drive home this thought, no sooner had the song ended then the clouds came together and the sun departed, as if Georgia had taken her leave. More smiles and comments followed this change in the weather
But that's not all...
The service ended a few minutes later. Once everyone was in their car, the sky opened up with a downpour as if Georgia and Company's divine touch had held up Mother Nature for just a few, valuable, moments.
While Georgia was certainly on our minds, we were on hers as well.
Thanks for sharing this short and touching tribute to your grandmother Georgia, and by extension to Ray Charles, who touched the hearts of so many with his music and songs. It is marvellous how we see God's blessings in everything when we carry Him in our hearts. God's blessings be with you.
Strange that this Title out of hundreds reached out and grabbed me - but, it's ironic, I had just seen the movie "Ray"...and throughout the movie they had played "Georgia On My Mind"...which was my favorite Ray Charles song; so then I read your piece.
Sure enough, the Song you wrote about WAS "Georgia On My Mind"...and was so moving, so touching. I loved it - and thanks for sharing it with us.
