The Accident and other Guardian Angel Episodes.
As the car began to fill with water I was in a state of disbelief. These kind of things only happened in Hollywood movies, not in real life. Especially mine. Dark brown water touched the edge of my chin and as the water flowed over my mouth I began my struggle to survive.
As I lost hope in finding a way out of the sunken car, I got a sudden burst of energy and was able to feel my way to an open window and swim to the surface. Three others in the car were not so lucky including a three year old boy.
I was fourteen at the time.
Why did I survive while others did not? All I can think about after all these years is the sudden burst of energy I got and where that came from.
More occurrences to ponder:
While sleeping, I had a vision of bright lights shining in my eyes. Waking suddenly, I looked at the foot of my bed and saw the connection of my electric blanket smoldering and about to catch fire.
I immediately unplugged the cord from the wall and looked at the melted wire.
What had woken me?
As I lay back down, I noticed a Paper Mache figure of The Mother Mary holding baby Jesus in my line of sight. Directly behind this figure was a window where light from a street lamp was shining through. But the figure blocked the light that was directed at me. So where did the light I "saw" while I was asleep come from?
Just a few more...
I was born two months early back in 1956. There was only one hospital west of the Mississippi that could help a preemie such as myself and I was born at this hospital in Palo Alto Calif.
When my car stalled in the middle of rush hour traffic, I felt a sense of hopelessness and frustration. This car was on its last piston and I didn't want my 63 IMPALA to die now. Those honking horns in my ear were telling me, "to get my piece of junk outta the way!" Suddenly an immaculate copy of my car backed up to my front end. The driver had a complete tool set and jumper cables. After giving me a jumpstart, I gave him many thanks and was ready to move out. Only my motor suddenly stopped running and nothing happened when I turned the key. Rather than be abused by more "understanding" motorists, my hero used his tow rope to pull me to a nearby parking lot.
There he found a starter wire that had become disconnected and once patched together, the car started right up and stayed running long enough for me to get home.
This person was on his way to a job interview when he rescued me. A job as an airline steward working up in the clouds. How ironic because that is where he came from I'm sure.
So there you have it. Examples of luck or divine intervention?
There are many examples of guardian angles being involved in our lives. Some major, such as my accident, others seemingly minor like engaging in a wonderful conversation with a stranger.
I am not a proclaimed religious person believing in a specific God. Higher power? Yes.
I'm not here to convince others that guardian angels exist, only to plant the seed of self-reflection. However, I do take comfort in reviewing the situations I explained since they cement in my mind the existence of guardians that are helping to support me in times of need.
Now as I approach 50, I look back and take in more energy from these situations. At the time of the occurrences, I wasn't able to fully appreciate their message. Now with some experience built up, I can look at the message delivered and take comfort in knowing that angels are around me helping me in everyday situations. Not only the life and death struggles I mentioned but on those days when I am sad or low on energy, I have bumped into a stranger and had a short conversation about everyday things that picked me up.
Nothing fancy just interaction with another human.
So now when I feel a bit low and have some worry, I look around and find trees to look at, animals to enjoy or other people to say hi to. All provided by the angels around me that help guide my thoughts towards connection with all that is part of my life.
It is this tool that helps me get through the bumps that arise in life. Angels are around to lend a helping hand if one is ready to accept them.
