Hello and welcome! My name is Jimmy and I’m glad you are here. Sit down and relax while I tell you a story about what happened to me when I was a young boy. I hope you like it; here goes.
When I was only ten a most amazing thing happened. I was a happy and carefree child. My mom home schooled me, and because of this I had a lot of time to explore our fifty acre farm.
One afternoon, just after finishing up lunch and cleaning the dishes, I went out to explore as I usually did. It was a great day for an adventure, and boy what an adventure I ended up having.
As I began my afternoon’s exploration, everything appeared to be just another normal day. The sun was shining it’s warm rays down on me. I was enjoying the peacefulness and wonder of the great outdoors.
I decided I would first check out the cows. I knew any day our cow Daisy would be having her baby. Boy was I thrilled when I arrived at the pastures and found a new born baby calf lay next to her momma. Daisy’s baby must have just had been born; it was too young to even be able to stand. Oh I must have watched that baby for several hours. By the time I left the pasture, that little boy was up on his legs wobbling around near his mom.
I left the cows and headed to the creek. We had a beautiful little creek that ran through our property. I sat down on the bank and watch the water flow. Sometimes leaves would float past me in the water.
I was really enjoying my afternoon, when I decided to look under a rock nearby. To my amazement I found a colony of Holeligan ants. Well now, everyone knows Holeligan ants were thought to be extinct. Imagine my delight upon my discovery. Oh, I sat there for hours watching those incredible creatures going about their business.
Suddenly, my attention shifted to the skies and the sounds of thunder. I remembered hearing my parents talk about the chances of flooding near the creek. I looked back to my new found friends and realized that if the creek would flood the tiny creatures would be destroyed. I panicked; I needed to save those wonderful creatures.
Oh what would I do? As I was thinking about the problem at hand, I remembered one night while I prayed I heard God say “I will grant you one miracle, anything you want.” That was it that was the answer to my problem. I would ask God to let me become and ant, and then I would be able to talk to them. I could warn them and they would understand me.
I prayed for God to help me. I asked that I could become and ant just like them. When I opened my eyes I could see God had answered my prayer. I quickly went to work. I ran to a large group of ants.
“You have to leave,” I said. “You will all die if you don’t find higher ground.”
Looking confused, one of the ants replied. “What?”
“Look, there is a flood coming. Water is going to fill your home. You will all drown if you don’t leave right now. Go, Go find higher ground, quickly.”
One of the ants called for a meeting. All the ants listened as he told them about the danger that was coming. Soon ants were scattering, gathering some supplies. They began to file out of their home, one after the other. I heard some noise behind me. When I turned to see what was happening I was plowed into by a small group of scared ants.
The ants had all left the anthill in plenty of time; but I had been trampled and I couldn’t get out. I drowned that day. I had wanted to save the ants so I became an ant. As I was warning them I, myself was killed.
But wait, it doesn’t end there. After I had drowned, I found that I was in a beautiful place and I noticed a great light. I walked toward the light and I heard a voice; it was God’s voice. He told me He was very pleased with me. He said because I had unselfishly gave my life to save the ants He was going to let me live longer.
The next thing I knew, I woke up in my bed. My mom was nearby; she looked so worried.
“Mom,” I said.
“Oh Jimmy, you’re alright,” she cried as she ran to hold me.
I smiled at her. I knew I could never tell her what had happened; she would never have believed it. Sometimes I even wonder if it was all just a dream, but then I look carefully at my chest and I can see those ant-sized feet prints.
