Dear Cinderella

Dear Cinderella,

A slipper I have
That I do
I run around
Searching and looking for you

And there you are
And the shoe wont fit
Or you forced it on
Or you break it, bit by bit

And into pieces
So my heart goes
Back to my castle
With nothing on your toes

Your wicked stepsisters
I even gave them a try
But in the end
Just like you, they made me cry

Could it be what I drive?
This ugly pumpkin couch
Am I not a prince?
But rather a toad?

Oh wait, what’s that I hear?
Another damsel in distress
I better hurry
Do I look my best?

There she is
Could she be the one?
Oh for a fairytale ending
For once I could say that I won!

Oh but there’s a dragon
He better be slayed
But another knight beat me to it
And with him, you off and ran away

On up the road, cutting through thickets and brush
Another lady sits
But for what I said
She pushed me into the mud!

So many princesses
So little time
Help them all
But the end, always the same old crime

Broken apart
I gallop home
Back to the "drawing" bridge
And I sit alone on my throne

I know what I'll do
I got this great rhyme
Put it on paper
Then shell be mine!

Come to my castle
Here you’ll be no slave
But I came on too strong
And I scared her away

Maybe a red rose
That will do the trick
But she’s allergic to flowers
And I just made her sick

Maybe it's my armor
I'll get some new clothes
Got to look hip
So I've been told

But then I'm out of cash
And it's money that works
Besides she liked the other outfit
Add another to this list of quirks

Go to the old standby
Box of chocolate,
Lockets and all that
But she said that would just make her fat

And of course I went wrong
The locket was gold
She likes silver
That I was supposed to know

You’re so romantic!
What they all say
If that is true
Then why don’t you stay?

Can we stay friends?
I like you so
Just not that way
I hope that you know

You are so nice!
But just not for me
You’ll find the right one
Just wait and see

And then there’s him
So different than I
All of those good things you said
Was it just a lie?

You’re too good for me
What they all say
Maybe to be a jerk
Then like he, I’d get my way

Too much, too fast
Way too soon
I liked it all at first
But you’re too good to be true

Then the other
Not enough, way too slow
You didn’t get physical
Sorry, I have to let you go

You are so sweet!
Many times it’s been said
But that usually leads
To a goodbye kiss on my forehead

A knight like me
Why do I try?
Getting my hopes up
Only to cry

Sometimes I’m the one to mess up
Sometimes my own demise
Things I do and say
My own foolish pride

And more times than none
It’s others it seems
Things out of my control
Why cant she see?!

Why is this so hard?
I know, I will ask my King
O’ dear Lord
Bring me a girl to make my heart sing

Oh you’re so silly
You have it all wrong
Drop what you’re doing
Forget that sad song

Come back to the house
There’s something you must defend
In doing so
Is how you become real men

Back on my stead
And away I ride
No more tears
And enough of the lies

So tonight each girl
On the way that I pass
I say, sorry my love
That other night was the last

So I draw my sword
In a call from above
Because Heaven’s Gates need defended
With all my might, heart, and love

It’s a quarter to midnight
And the clock is ticking away
You better hurry Cinderella
Before another beats you to my way

Because for a change,
Here I’m gonna sit
Guarding God’s castle
Please let me know if you’d like to join me in it

Sincerely,
The Prince

I like the sentiment behind this. So often stories and poetry about "waiting" are written from the woman's perspective - it's neat read about the same topic from a man's viewpoint.
