Guide my hand oh Lord as I cut into his chest,
thank you for providing me a staff that is the best,
give me sharp eyes and a steady hand to operate,
and if he makes it through, well that would just be great.
Give his family strength as they endure the wait,
bless them with patience if the hour should get late.
Let them know we’re doing the very best we can,
and let them help each other while we work on this man.
I’ve repaired the artery; the blood now freely flows,
if he’ll make it through the night, You’re the only one who knows.
The sponges were all counted; the sutures were applied,
I don’t think I’ll have to tell his family that he died.
