Enter ye in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and a few there be that find it. Matthew 7:13-14 KJV
I really donít believe that there are any true born again and spirit filled believers out there today who could honestly say that we are not living in the end times? Jesus told us what to look for and today more than any other time we are seeing wars & hearing rumors of wars. We are hearing of diseases and illnesses (pestilences) that we are told are going to come upon us. There are earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes that are not only hitting lands and Countries, but literally taking out entire Cities. The bible said they would be in divers places and because of Internet, Television and Radio we certainly know that the things that are happening are in divers places donít we? (see Matthew 24:6-8)
In this particular article I will not be focusing on the end times. I just wanted to share where we were in time to say that today like no other day we must be sure that we have the mind of Christ on where the church stands and not our own mind on the matter. Maybe we have forgotten the rebuke that Peter received from Jesus when Peter decided that what the Lord was saying about the cross should not happen.
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for though savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Matthew 16:22-23
Dear ones, if we know that we are in the end times and we understand that without rebuke and correction our lives are destined to follow the path that leads to destruction than why do we continue to go in the wrong direction, lead others in that same direction with us and basically spend our time rebuking the Lord as Peter did for what He has already said is to come? How many of you know that the very reason there is a road that leads to destruction is because man savors his own mind and believes his own thoughts are somehow above the thoughts of others or at times even above the Lords.
What was Peterís error? The Lord was sharing with all of them about his destiny which was the cross. It was not a pretty picture. It was not even something He wanted to face Himself, but Peter decided that since it was hurtful, bad or negative that it shouldnít happen. He somehow thought that his thoughts should be above the Lords at that time and he went as far as to go to the Lord and say: ďBe it far from thee Lord, this shall not be.Ē Jesus doesnít only rebuke Peter, but literally calls him Satan. Ouch!!! Meaning, you are thinking like my enemy and not like Me at all.
My point is this. God the Father has a plan. Just like the cross which neither Peter nor anyone else could stop God also knows who will enter into that narrow gate. We can sit back and in our own minds believe whatever we want to about who will get in and how it can happen, but the Word of God is very clear that when man follows his own mind He will not find the road that leads to life, but is following a road that leads to destruction.
I often think of a Ship on the sea. With proper navigation even through storms it will eventually reach its destination, but getting off just one degree and not making that correction will eventually take you somewhere that you were never intending to go. Why? Because, in the ocean a small mistake in navigation will become a huge mistake that with a little correction could have been stopped and set on the right path so that its destination would be seen. Similarly to flying in an airplane, if your destination is California and you donít navigate properly you could end up in Canada instead.
As one person who the Lord uses prophetically I can honestly say dear ones that it is disheartening to see so many who today are walking like Peter. They donít really have true accountability in their lives like in Peterís case where He had Jesus. They have no one to rebuke them so they basically get out there further and further into that mindset that God is so loving, so gracious and so good that the destruction that is set before them will never happen. Sadly enough they believe they are walking in some level of revelation far greater then others have and even when God sends someone to correct their course they still donít hear or wonít receive it.
Dear ones, now is the time to put aside our own thoughts and take back on us the mind of Christ. There are those who donít want to hear the truth, but recently the Lord asked me to write an article out of the book of Revelations. I did so, but one thing we are missing is that out of the Seven Churches Jesus was asking John to write to in Revelations 2, at least 5 out of the 7 He said He had something against.
Is God blessed with all Churches? No.
Is God happy that we have created so many denominations and divisions through our own disagreements today? No.
Is His Spirit still moving in all the Churches today? No.
In fact as I shared in the previous article titled ĎI have this against youí Jesus says to the Church at Ephesus; ďI will remove your lampstand from its place.Ē What is a lampstand? Well, in Revelations 1:20 Jesus explains to John that a lampstand symbolizes a Church or body of believers. While we want so much to see God just take us all up in the soon coming rapture, Jesus is forewarning us that He has no problem removing the Church in our City entirely if we choose not to make the serious changes He is requesting. Why do I say City? Because this letter was specifically to the church in Ephesus.
I feel to close with this. Although it is true that we must be careful not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought, we must also realize that one reason we are still so far from being the church without spot or wrinkle is because many of us are on that wider path and sadly because of our own mindsets we not only choose not to get off that path, but choose to take others with us. We donít really want correction and donít want to hear that it is necessary. We want to go on believing we always hear God and we always know His thoughts. We somehow believe we know His ways even though He tells us His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.
Friends, the mind truly is a battlefield, but until we get the mind of Christ and truly understand that there are those who will be destroyed because they have chosen the wide path and that there is a real heaven, a real hell and that God Himself set His plan in motion before the foundations of the world, we will continue to fall into Peters' error. When we decide in our own minds that we donít like something or donít want to hear it just because it sounds negative we may find ourselves basically rebuking the Lord by rebuking those He sends to try to get us back on that narrow path.
I just really feel led to make a comment here. Why is all Scripture given in the first place? 2 Tim. 3:17-That the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every GOOD work. Joel 1:15-Tells us that the day of the Lord shall come as DESTRUCTION from the Lord. Ps. 90:3 says YOU turn man TO DESTRUCTION and say, RETURN. Is. 10:21-says (NKJV) The remnant WILL RETURN,(22) THE DESTRUCTION DECREED SHALL OVERFLOW WITH RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jere.51:25-Behold I am against you, O destroying mountain, who destroys all the earth, (26) They will not take from you a stone for a foundation. I believe it just depends on what path we are following in the word, the path of His wrath of of His mercy! 1 Thess. 5:9-For God DID NOT appoint us TO WRATH, but to OBTAIN SALVATION. And 1 Corin. 10:24,33, says, NOT seeking my own profit, but the profit OF MANY, that THEY may be SAVED. So there seems to be two different points of opinion here. Blessings, Sharon
