I read this verse today, "Do not pay any attention to every word people say." Ecc7:21 and it opened my eyes to a powerful idea. In my life, when I begin feeling negative, depressed and dissatisfied, it is almost always a result of hearing criticism or THINKING I am being criticized. (Even when this may be untrue.)
My thought-life can get so bogged down in worrying about what other people think or say about me that I lose sight of what God thinks of me. Truly, this is the only thing that should matter to me. But, it is human nature to care about the opinions of others more than we should.
We want to be liked. We desire praise. We long for affirmation. Maybe, like me, you spend too much time worrying about the opinions of your neighbor and far too little time seeking God's opinion.
If I truly desire to seek God's opinion and be obedient to Him, I need look no further than His word. Too often,I choose to ignore Him and turn away from seeking His will.
It is abundantly clear from God's writings to us in His Holy Word that His love prevails even past my sins, my mistakes and my failures. My self-worth should come from His truth and His love not the opinions of neighbors, friends, family, or even my preacher. It needs to be grounded in the truth of God's love for me which is evident throughout scripture.
Today, let's rest in this knowlege and receive the joy it can bring when we truly believe it. Let's decide to live today as a dearly loved child of God no matter what or who we encounter along the way. Let's be who we were created to be in Christ and truly love every minute of it. Live for HIS love and approval this week.
