And Saul said to David, 'You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.'.....Moreover, David said, 'The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine,' And Saul said to David, 'Go, and the Lord be with you!" I Samuel 17:33,37 NKJV
God is speaking...He is speaking to us about our current struggles and trials. If we can only remember what He has already delivered us from, then we will be able to trust Him to bring us through this also. Look back and begin to thank God for saving you; for delivering you from a bad relationship, or a habit, or a circle of 'friends', or a financial bind, or a sickness, or depression; or loneliness...Look back and thank God for delivering you from heartache; from that person who lied on you; from those people who tried to set you up; from the time the enemy tried to break you down; from the addiction you had;....Look back and thank God for delivering you from the destruction you were headed in, before you knew Him!! Look back and see where God has brought you from, the times you thought you wouldn't make it...But you are still here.
When you remember that God will never leave nor forsake you, then whatever you are facing, you know that God is right there. You will go through it in the name of the Lord. And you will come through glorifying God the Father! You will come out as the victor.
"Then said David to the Philistine, 'Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defiled. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand;..." I Samuel 17:45-46a
You know the rest of the story...David killed Goliath, the giant, with a sling and a stone!! Not because he was strong or great (remember, he was only a youth)...Not because he had people on his side, (remember, Saul did not think he could do it at first; and his eldest brother was angry at him for even wanting to help v.28) It was not because he had great weapons (remember he only had a slingshot and 5 stones; while Goliath had a sword, spear and shield) It was not because he was so big or strong (remember, he was small while Goliath was a giant). It was not because of who David was, or who he knew, or what he owned, or how he looked, or any of his own abilities.....
David won this battle with Goliath because he went into this battle in the 'name of the Lord.' David knew who brought him through before, and he knew that God is, the 'Lord and does not change.' (Malachi 3:6) He knew who to trust and who was in control. He knew that he had tried God before......
What about you? Have you tried God? Has He ever failed you?? Then why not try Him again?
"Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you." I Peter 5:7
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17
