MySpace the Modern Soddom and Gomorrah
Sodom and Gomorrah. We all know the Biblical story – the wickedness of the city is destroyed via the wrath of God. Every week we hear of another incident involving a pedophile and some girl with the interaction coming via My Space. I’ve witnessed firsthand how evil can start with a select few and soon engulf a whole local populous of youngsters into pure madness while in their virtual world, and I alerted you all to this. Is the Rupert Murdoch owned social networking site the modern online version of Sodom and Gomorrah? I thought I would look at my question through a Biblical context for that answer…
In Genesis 13 We learn of how Lot’s greed gets the best of him, failing to recognize evil and he settles in the land of the wicked.
In Genesis 18:20-33 We learn of Abraham repeated pleas with God to spare the city if he is able to find 50 righteous people in the city. God agrees to spare the city if 50 righteous people can be found. Abraham then asks the same question of 45, 40, 30, 20 and finally 10 people – each time God agreeing to spare the city if that many righteous people can be found within the city.
In Genesis 19:23-27 We come to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. We also find that Lot’s wife looked back upon the smoldering cities and became a pillar of salt – unable to turn completely away from her past.
In Genesis 30:4-13 We learn of Rachel and Leah locked into a then socially acceptable contest of a race to have more children. Same as then, today we know that certain things that are socially acceptable may not always be right.
In Matthew 23 We learn from Jesus to challenge societal norms as He did in challenging the accepted church leadership of the day.
In Mark 8 We learn how Jesus fed 4,000 with a few loaves of bread and a few fish. We also find how the disciples short on memory and slow to learn – later finding they are short on bread while on a boat. Jesus warns them to, “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.” We can take away from this that only a small batch of yeast is needed to make bread rise – such as the evil that infiltrates and contaminates society causing it to rise up against Christ.
In Ezekiel 16:44-52 We find that Judah is actually worse than Soddom and Gomorrah – not because of its sins, but because Judah knows better.
So is My Space the modern online version of Sodom and Gomorrah? I won’t be the judge of that. It is a definite new societal norm among our young people. I do believe there is some good in My Space and there are a number of good people on My Space. I intend to stay a part of My Space for the simple fact of that I wish to witness and bring more users to Ditty Talk (the Christian version of My Space). Roughly 2,000 people are on Ditty Talk. Compared to 65 million people on My Space…many are lost and they need reached out to. However, that being said I think I will be hard pressed to find 50, 45, 40, 30, 20, and even 10 people that will be able to turn completely away from My Space.com.

Thanks for this information about MySpace. It is valuable knowledge to help us fight the enemy. I'll look into Ditty Talk as I've not heard of it (but then, I don't do anything on myspace either). I tend to stay away from such sites, but I like your reasoning. Prayers that you will reach more than you can count. God bless.
