E-Cheer: Comfort And Cheer

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's
locker room. The ladies screamed and ran for towels and cover while
the little boy calmy said, "Haven't you ever seen a little boy before?"
It's called -- not recognizing the problem.

I get emails of encouragement from readers that are always pepper-
uppers. It's like getting a shot of adrenalin. Are you an encourager?
Stop and ask yourself, "Do people I know think of me as a positive
encouraging person or a negative complainer?" Which of the two
choices would more closely represent Jesus Christ?

The other day, a friend from church called and simply said, "I love
you," then hung up. That was more helpful to us than all the vitamins
in the world -- just three little words, but oh so meaningful.

Many years ago, a friend and I enrolled at a well known Christian
college. After two weeks, we were so fed up with the school's legalism
that we decided to leave. The president of the school heard about it,
and that morning, in chapel, he called us "dirty, rotten, low-down,
slimy, filthy quiters." Now wasn't that an encouraging thing for a
supposed man of God to say, and in a chapel service? I wish he could
see me now. I've always used him as an example of how Christians
should not be.

People take all kinds of stimulants for picker-uppers, but the kindness
of encouragement is the cheapest yet most effective picker-upper in the
world -- use it liberally without fear of overdose.

Psalm 94:19 (nlt), "When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me
renewed hope and cheer." We can all bring God's comfort and cheer to
someone in need -- today!
