Many bible scholars know the story regarding Ahab and Jezebel, but some miss the fact, that the spirit of Ahab and the spirit of Jezebel are still very much active within our churches today. When we hear of someone that has the spirit of Jezebel, we often think of a loose woman that will go after anyone’s man within the church, BUT that is not always the case. Jezebel was a murderer, a deceiver and a manipulator, in addition to be a sorceress. She did not care whom she killed along the way, as long as she got what she wanted. The spirit of Jezebel is the same way today, a killer of homes, families, ministries, a deceiver and a manipulator. The spirit of Jezebel and Ahab still are running rampant through so many churches today, and the frightening thing is, it could be operating within us. No matter how knowledgeable of God’s word we are, no matter how much we study and pray, there is always a chance that one or both of those spirits can operate within us. This spirit can operate all the way from the door to the pulpit, if we are not careful. What starts out so innocent can blow up to be something that we are not prepared to deal with, and why? Because we are not trained for that kind of warfare. These spirits operate in witchcraft and sorcery. I done some research some time ago on these spirits and I realized that one does not operate without the other. For Jezebel to be present, Ahab must also be in the midst. Another common misconception is that Jezebel has to be a woman, that statement could not be more incorrect. Even though the spirit of Jezebel mainly operates within women, men too have been known to operate under this spirit. There are times when we can visibly see this spirit operating within someone, but instead of confronting Jezebel, we pray that it will just go away. One thing that we all should be able to say about any spirit, if we never confront it, if we just allow it to manifest, if we never tell that spirit that it is not welcome there, then that spirit has the right to stay. It will stay until we say, In the name of Jesus, you must leave this place. The more we allow this spirit to lie dormant, the more we allow it to manifest, the stronger this spirit becomes until one day, you find yourself powerless against this spirit, yet you have no idea why. Churches have split because of this spirit, marriages have fallen apart, yet we try to ignore it. Once again, if we ignore, we think it will just go away. But it doesn’t go away, it just gets bigger and bigger, because we either ignore it or fail to recognize it.

When you look at the characteristics of someone who is overcome with the spirit of Jezebel, you may say to yourself, “I have that trait or characteristic,” an I would dare say that many of us may have a trait or some traits, an if we notice that it could be a problem, then immediately we need to pray an ask God to reveal to us if we are operating in that type of spirit. Some traits of a person who allows this spirit to dwell within them are, but not limited to: never wanting to admit when they are wrong, wants to take the credit for anything and everything, has a tendency of ignoring people, pushy, dominating, seeks vengeance, hides information, ungratefulness, always has to one up someone, very critical of everyone, sows seeds of discord, wants and desires attention, will use others to accomplish their own agenda. Those who allow the Jezebel spirit to dwell within seeks to destroy the prophets of God, therefore trying to destroy the testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, which is considered the spirit of prophecy found in Revelation 19:10. As men and women of God, we not only have to pray for those who are operating in this spirit, we have to pray for our shepherds that they do not fall prey to this spirit. People who operate within this spirit seek to have an alliance with the Pastors of their church by presenting themselves as a strong leader with extraordinary spiritual insight. They can present themselves as an advocate for the Pastor to aid in the growth of the church, while all the same, seeking to weaken the authority of the Pastor. People who operate with this spirit has the capability of getting what they want no matter what the cost, nor who gets hurt in the process. Remember when Ahab wanted the vineyard of Naboth in I Kings 21, and because he would not give the vineyard over to Ahab, Jezebel had him murdered. In order to destroy this spirit, the leaders who are called by God, need to repent and humble themselves before God, and ask God to forgive them for wrongly using their authority, but also to ask God to forgive them for not using the authority that God has placed within them to call out such spirits. Ahab and Jezebel can be defeated, but we need to recognize it, whether it dwells within ourselves or someone else. We need to humble ourselves and repent from our ways and ask God to deliver us from that which was sent to devour us. We need to pray constantly for our Pastors, our churches and our communities that we do not allow a spirit like that to tear down the Kingdom of God through us and others. We need to lift our shepherds up before God for strength, wisdom and discernment to come up against this spirit in the manner that God requires. We need to be aware of the hidden enemy that destroys homes, churches and communities. We need to be aware of a God that can do all things but fail, and we need to be aware of things within us that have allowed us to fall prey to this spirit, whether as a victim or the one who has allowed the spirit to operate within us. We are in a fight for our lives and the lives of others. We need to realize that we are in a war, a spiritual war, which can only be won with spiritual weapons. We need to pray daily and put on the full armor of God so that we may be able to withstand the wiles of satan and his followers. The scripture says, “The kingdom of God suffereth violence and the violent take it by force.” It is time to take back the kingdom. It is time to take a stand, for God I live and for God I will die. It is time to call the enemy out and tell them, you have no place here anymore. It is time to bury Ahab and Jezebel once and for all. It is time for all of God’s people to be free. Be Blessed.

This is a wonderful article with amazing insights Dee Dee. Thanks so much. Very, very needed in the body of Christ. You may want to develop it further into a book or lengthier publication. Again, it's very, very relevant to all christians today. May I second the suggestion to break it up into more paragraphs for easier reading? Again, this important information is desperately needed in the body of Christ and anything to help draw attention would be great. Excellent job on this. Write some more on the subject please ........!

I would like to have read your article, but, it bothers my eyes when the article is not broken up into segments. I would like to mention, too, that wherever you find Jezebel, you will always find Ahab because he needs her to function. The subject of your article is probably one that needs to be addressed more, rather than less. Thank you.
