Was down and out. Rare, but it happens. God being as amazing as He is, chose an unsaved friend to bring me back to where I should have been.
As is my habit, turned to my pen & paper (or in this case keyboard & CPU) and wrote the experience down (read 'God's not deaf' from my archives).
Subsequently three very talented writers (do check them out: Rod Smith, Debbie Porter, Jay Cookingham) did reviews on the article.
But they weren't just reviews. They were edifications. Coming from people who I have never met, it was personal. Written and read at different times, it was one-on-one. It was great; so Christian, so beautiful.
Have you ever dropped a note of encouragement to someone? A simple telephone call to say "I'm here" or better still "God's here"?
The best form of encouragement, is the type which assures the person of God’s presence, God’s power & control over the situation and the fact that He can turn even the worse thing over for good (Rom 8:28). Using God’s Word as a tool for encouragement, it is possible to speak light into all kinds of darkness.
Barnabus (which means 'son of consolation') was known for his encouragement to others in the church. We all know a Barnabus; someone we can rely on to edify us. However it is important that we all become Barnabus to others as well. Imagine a world where every Christian encouraged other Christians to come back on track! Halleluiah! Beautiful isn’t it?!
Often we say and do things, the effects of which we'll never see & never know. Rest assured that, your encouragement, however small, however seemingly insignificant, even if unappreciated, even if not reciprocated, does make a difference.

Well Melody, I never expected to be blessed quite so personally when I clicked on the link to this message. I truly believe that encouragement is vitally important for growth. It fills us with courage, keeps us focussed and assures us that we're heading in the right direction. I'm so glad that we were able to give you a bit of a boost. (Good to know that God doesn't just use unsaved friends to spur you on) ;-) With love, Deb
