Four friends talk at the coffee hour at church. Intended as a lead-in to a sermon or skit written by you! This is just a tickler to get others thinking. The full presentation of the message comes in your sermon or devotion.
Vaughn: Iím really excited. I just sent in my Publisherís Clearing House Sweepstakes entry. Iím pretty sure Iím going to win this year.
Estelle: That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, Vaughn.
Leon: Aw, Estelle. Let the kid dream.
Estelle: But I donít think its right to let him get his heart set on the impossible.
Julie: Itís not impossible, Estelle. Improbable, maybe, but not impossible.
Vaughn: Julieís right. Somebody has to win, and this year itís going to be me. I have my eye on a sweet little piece of property on the lake. It has great boat access. I already know which boat Iím buying, too.
Estelle: This is getting crazy. You canít count on that prize money, Vaughn. Youíre not going to win the Publisherís Clearing House Sweepstakes!
Leon: Improbable odds do come through.
Julie: Improbable things do happen, to others. I mean surprising things do happen. But, in reality they donít happen all that often. Name one time in your experience that the improbable happened to you, Leon.
Estelle: Easter happens for everyone, Leon. How is that improbable?
Leon: How probable was it that God would send His Son into the world to rescue me? How probable was it that the Son of God would suffer and die for my sins so that I would get eternal life in heaven instead of the punishment I deserve in hell?
Julie: It is pretty amazing when you put it like that.
Vaughn: Wow. Great things do happen to people like us. Maybe Iíll send in that entry after all.
Estelle: But I thought you were sure you were going to win already. What do you mean ďsend it inĒ?
Vaughn: Get real, Estelle. Nobody ever wins those things.
If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
Very cute. I would have went into a little more detail about what Jesus did on Easter. That part seemed a little hurried. Maybe you could have listed how improbable it was for a man who had so much done to him to be able to come back to life or something like that. Just a thought. Other than that little part, very nice skit.
