The Sixth Penitential Psalm
De Profundis Refrain
from NONE The Hours of the Cross
From the depth of our solitary flight
- Woe to us for not aspiring - we take
Wings to proclaim this hour of observance
With our total trust God’s will fulfilling.
Doubt - not the contrary to faith - an end
Appending our cathedral space - to spread
The variant poles of our fear and courage -
And to tie a more telling destiny.
Pain in depth is paid as debt - a vain hope
Is sowed on the sod of our earthly garden
To alter fortune’s healing task, to stall
A prize or to ask for another why.
Out of the depth of darkness, lucid pain
Reveals through our faith a brighter heaven.
