A Sinner in the Hands of a Merciful Savior

So many bridges in ashes and dust,
burnt with the match in my hand.
So many doorways with hinges of rust,
not oiled with kindness as planned.

So many choices where error was made,
lured by the darkness of sin.
So many promises offered in trade,
my walls of resolve grew thin.

So many regrets ensconced by mistakes,
pursued in spite of my fears.
So many ‘if onlys’ causing heartaches,
leading my soul to bleed tears.

So many wounds, self-inflicted, I bear,
earned by my unyielding heart.
So many scars I disgracefully wear:
bold tattoos of errant art.

So many pardons, I do not deserve,
God in His mercy extends.
So many graces my worn heart preserves;
such great love, all thought transcends.

Beauty from ashes, my Lord can create;
from sorrow, a song of praise.
He laid down His crown and Heaven so great;
through death, slayed Satan’s clichés.

I’ll never forget that I am but dust,
driven and tossed by the wind.
I’ll never forget in Whom I can trust,
Who sees me as though I’ve not sinned.

Forever I’ll serve my Savior and Lord,
ceaselessly tell of His grace.
The Balm of Gilead my heart restored:
Sinner and Sinless embrace.

Three supporting quotes:

1) "I am not what I ought to be. I am not what I want to be. I am not what I hope to be. But still, I am not what I used to be. And by the grace of God, I am what I am." - John Newton

2) "O Lord, forgive what I have been, sanctify what I am, and order what I shall be." - Thomas Wilson

3) "I think that if God forgives us we must forgive ourselves." - attributed to C. H. Spurgeon

* Exclusively penned for the glory of God!

What are we going to do without our Savior? Which road are we going to take without His Light shining our path? Who can we turn to when no one else see our hearts? For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus Christ came not to condemn but to save. Nancy, thank you for sharing you beautiful expression of His love to us. Continue on! Love, Gloria (Philippians 1:6)

Sweet Nance, This is wonderful! You take us from darkness to a heart set back on Jesus. What hope this can give all of us! And how I can relate...
