At the Cross I wept and wept
Couldn’t control the crying
Or save the Begotten One from dying
What anguish from this burdened heart I felt
Pain and anger left me so bereft
In stillness I would have kept
Control of the anger that was trying
To vie with the pain I felt.
Why was one of His followers
Controlled by evil thoughts?
The teachings, the healings, His powers
Failed to impress this money lover
Chosen by Satan as he cowers
From truth and justice from above
Treachery and deceit he couldn’t cover
His heart a stone and absent of love.
An evil force, hidden and secret
Unfolds a sinister and wicked plot
How well he knew that spot
A place of prayer, a place of quiet
He turns into a stage of blackness
Theatre under cover of darkness
His Form silhouetted by lights a-flickering
Soldiers armed, with looks a-threatening.
A smitten ear, His healing touch
He accomplished so much
Yet never stopped the kiss
(Or all that was amiss)
That led Him to His slaughter,
Scene of the sacrificial lamb,
Beaten, scourged and crucified.
On that Good Day He died.
He came to earth to die.
The crowds cry ‘crucify!’
‘Crucify Him! Crucify Him!’
In jubilation they shout
There was never any doubt
No need for weeping or for grief
It’s only an unbeliever’s belief
His death was all in vain.
Surely, it set off an endless train –
Events unparalleled in history
Just listen to the apostles’ story
The Church they founded in His name
The Crucifixion, do not blame.
God planned it all
The schemes of Satan to forestall.
The Holy Spirit upon them rested
To save mankind whene’er he is tested.
