The moment of truth came upon Me
I sat with the Twelve, we broke bread, shared wine
Symbols of my death, my body to be broken,
My blood to be shed for the forgiveness of sin.
I was to become the Lamb that takes away the sin of the world.
I went to Gethsemane where I agonised in prayer
My friends slept, they could not wait, watch or pray.
Sweat drops as blood ran down my body like a river.
I was full of dread, so I cried, ‘Father, if it were possible
let this cup pass. Yet not my will, but Your will be done.
My friend who dipped in the same plate and shared the same cup
Sold me, that the scriptures might be fulfilled.
They came like dogs, like a pack of hyenas and jackals to take me away.
My friend, Peter, cut off the ear of one of them.
I had to restore the ear and tell him to sheath his dagger.
They tried me, found nothing wrong,
yet the people said, ‘Crucify Him, crucify Him!’
I was beaten, battered and broken
Some hid their faces from Me.
I bore their sins, carried their sorrows, their pain,
anguish, depression, oppression
poverty, sickness, weakness,
condemnation, isolation and punishment
that brought them peace.
They condemned Me with criminals ,
hung Me with thieves and taunted Me,
’He saved others, but He cannot save Himself’
‘If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.’
I gave up the Ghost having finished My race and done the deed..
Today, I live, that they too might live a life more abundant.
Through my death and resurrection.
