~He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young~
~No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him~
During times of fear, uncertainty or grief it is good to often pause and gaze upward to the face of Jesus. Whether it be uncertainty in our personal lives or fear due to the frightening times we live in, our true, lasting peace can be found only in a deeper knowledge of our tender God’s heart and in fellowship with Him.
Of a truth, Jesus is the Sovereign Ruler of the Universe. He has won total victory for those who are His. However, there is a need to study how tenderly and lovingly He deals with His own in the midst of difficult times.
How is it that He is able to give us His gentle, kind whispers of love and calm our anxious hearts? Part of the reason is because He has been forever in the bosom of our Heavenly Father. He experiences absolute intimacy with the Heavenly Father and being the exact representation of the Father, He is able to pass on to us the same blessedness of the caresses of God.
Certainly the word “bosom” of God seems old and outdated to us but it is a word that best communicates what He desires for us.
As we look carefully at the word we are thrilled when we discover that to be in or on the bosom of someone means to be in his embrace, to be cherished by them as the object of intimate care and dearest affection. It indicates the upper part of a person's body where objects and persons of love are embraced. The person, animal, or object that is held in one's bosom is cherished greatly.
Oh, wouldn’t we love to believe that God cherishes, and is able to keep us in His loving embrace? During times of the harshness of another to us or pain, wouldn’t we love to know the blessedness of the caresses of God and His gentle whispers of love to us as He carries us close to His heart? During times of darkness and death, would we not long for His sweet and tender presence to reassure us that someday soon all of the grief and death will pass away forever?
Let us come to the gentle, pitying heart of Jesus. He will remind us that we are being carried in His everlasting arms of love and that we are always cherished by Him as we lay our weary heads upon His sacred breast.
Sis, this is so comforting to read, giving me peace and assurance like being embraced so tenderly, so gently, so lovingly, by our Heavenly Father. Yes, cherished are we who put our trust in our Almighty, Sovereign, Merciful, Loving God! Blessings to you and yours! Gloria
