These are the Words I read in the Living Book of yesterday, today and tomorrow, and I asked myself, ‘Why? … Why did God make man?’
At what moment in endless time was man birthed in God’s heart? When did the first whisper of love for man begin?
Did the empty void beyond Holy Realm reflect something that always was? Or did it reflect nothing at all?
For when the flame of Holy Light radiated through endless space, piercing through endless time …did the Hand of Glory touch His intended? Was His search reciprocated with hollow emptiness? Did He find no dwelling for His Intimate Grace – no reflection of His Loving Mercy?
I read again, ‘Then God said, “Let us make man …”’
And again I asked myself, ‘Why?’
So I reviewed the first moments God spoke and thoughts provoked more of the same, ‘What can Empty offer God? Of what use is Formless, beaten down by Deep and Dark?’
The beauty before me in Living Words painted a masterpiece …
‘Empty’ heard its Master and awoke to new light. ‘Formless’ stretched to magnificent heights as stately beasts stretched their limbs, shaking off the dust of dry ground. Creation beamed with order and life; blossomed with color, fragrance and food in preparation for the Hands of its Creator – in preparation for the breath of God.
Then He said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness* …”’
And I wondered, ‘What did God use to mix with dry Earth to make the clay for living flesh? Did He use Living Water? The earthen vessel to be formed would be filled with Holy Breath … but why clay? Clay is so fragile. It will break when it falls. A vessel made of pure gold – clear as glass, adorned with priceless jewels should be the one entrusted with such a Holy Treasure!
Then the last Words of the Author called me, beckoned me across the pages of history that told of death, redemption and life. They drew me to the ending of His Living Book and I closed my eyes as the illumination of this prophecy filled my soul…
‘Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea…. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God”’*
Things too wondrous carried me toward a flicker of a thought; for the flame of Holy Light had revealed empty space and pierced through the darkest of time. The hand of Glory had reached further than Eternity and took hold of the end to create the beginning; to create a dwelling for His Intimate Grace – to bestow a reflection of His Loving Mercy.
And ‘He said to me, “It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the end”’*
