I've never had the pleasure of hearing Tom's music before but in his bio. it describes his music roots as a delta blues style of music played on his trademark nickle-platted National Reso-phonic guitar named, "Sticky Nickel."
It also mentions in his bio. that, "I am not a Christian artist...I just sing songs about Jesus."
That he does on this release with song lyrics all about the love Jesus offers all of us, along with His forgiveness and unending grace towards us.
On this release Tom makes the decision to forgo his signature blues sound for more of a gospel folk roots one.
The songs have a very simple and basic not over produced sound to them. Most of the songs have a melodic mellow flow to them.
There is one more upbeat tempo song entitled,
"Rise Again Today," that deals with the resurrection of Jesus. It features banjo and mandolin playing that gets your toes tapping.
At first thought it might seem like an odd choice of a song to have an upbeat tempo but what better song to express joy then the true freeing of our sins that came from Jesus death on the cross and His resurrection.
The song lyrics are well written and Tom sings them with emotion.
While you'll find nice instrumentation on this release the lyrics take the spotlight center stage and hold on to them throughout the entire release.
This release is out on Tom's own label Magnolia Recording Company.
I liked what this CD had to offer and I think with its style it will be appreciated by many different generations of listeners.
