He bled and died our sins to bear
Two thousand years ago
No shame or hate showed in His eyes
But sorrow filled His soul.
They nailed His hands and feet to wood
And speared His holy side
They mocked and scorned the King of Love
Whom they crucified.
His eyes were full of grace and love
As He spoke the words
“It is finished, now complete”
And all around Him heard.
He bowed His battered head and died
His purpose was fulfilled
Condemned of sin He took our place
On Golgotha’s Hill.
The devil danced with glee and joy
He thought he’d won the fight
`Jesus Christ is dead and gone,’
The devil danced all night.
But Jesus rose up from the grave
He lives, He reigns on high
His arms are open to receive
All who will draw nigh.
He took our place condemned of sin
The Lamb who had no spot
He’s your door to lasting life
Your life, with His He bought.
